Four of us at Erskine fit perfectly into the profile of women dominating the net- we are mad for it!

As many of us working at Erskine fit the profile of women aged between 18 - 34, I thought these facts were quite interesting. I’m not sure how many of us have being visiting parenting sites though- certainly not me, I am after all the youngest female Erskiner. Does this make us ‘ladies’ bigger geeks than the web boys?

The reason women may end up ruling the world (or hopefully just with and equal measure of equality in life) is precisely because they are not a bunch of techno geeks and generally have a more sensible perspective on life than men. Although there are one or two exceptions to every rule!

Lady Thatcher as a picture - interesting you picked her Sophie - why was that?

Firstly, I chose lady Thatcher because she was once upon a time ruled the country… Maybe my title was just to get you guys stirred… I thought this way it may get a look- and it did!
You are right though the title has little relevance to the story and women do generally have a more sensible perspective on life- my Mum is an exception to this rule though, she even allowed me to write this!

Woo! Hoo!
Go Sophie Go!
Hey - I Love your Mum - I’m glad she’s got the perspective she has. That’s why she’s great at PR and we get on so well.

What do you mean eventually! All though my life I have been surrounded by powerful women: have you met my mother?
I have always chosen to work with women, its not a conscious decision but when I am looking for new people, women generally come out on top!!!
The simple answer is they get stuff done.

I would be interested in knowing everybody’s own interpretations of the word ‘geek’.
I am known to use it alot, I personally think people love being called geeks- they think it suggests intelligence!
If you were called a geek at school then this was totally uncool! You could be called a geek for staying in and watching tv or procrastinating on the web!!

Ollie, times have changed. At Erskine we look into the future, we don’t drag up quotes by ‘Arthur Shopenhauer’. Lol.

Myself and Deano are going to set our own 35 to 50 ‘laideez geek collective’ up.
We’ll run rings around all you ‘boys and girls’.

Sophie...you cant beat the words of great men like shopenhauer, times have changed but the theories of great men such as Einstein still reign true today, so why cannot those of greats like good ole Arthur?
hehe

i’m not surprised that women are using the (legitimate, measurable areas of the) internet more than men, but it would be interesting to know more about who is creating it, i suspect that web design and programming is still mainly done by young men.
in fact i’m more surprised that anyone thought that use of the net was dominated by young men in the first place (where did they get that stat from??). certainly for legitimate uses of the net where people will honestly register their details for use in this kind of poll it makes sense that it’s mostly women.
I suspect that there are lots of people who are using the net for more shady purposes (from illegal downloads to porn) who are not registering their real details, or ticking boxes on polls, and that might skew this kind of data.
men aged 50+ are another big user group. wonder what their top ten sites are?
sophie - thatcher - what the ?? do you really need to use pictures of that woman?
ollie - you’ve got a lot to learn about women, and spelling.
