Erskine Design - a new agency within the wider corporation - is developing at a thrilling speed, with a strong emphasis on ethical projects and responsible design.
Earlier this month, Erskine Design launched a vast new website for New Consumer magazine. Passionate, irreverent, positive and fun, New Consumer exists to champion fair trade and ethical living throughout the world, and to ultimately change consumer and business behaviour by illustrating the ethical alternative. Something we wholeheartedly agree with here at Erskine.
The Erskine Design team are currently working on some other ethically minded projects, including a major web-based application for the food and drink industry, promoting locally sourced produce, organic production and in turn empowering producers to make an impact on the web.
Other projects include a new initiative for Business In The Community, bringing learning opportunities into the workplace, that will launch in Spring. Plus we are working with an organisation in Washington DC on a site that provides unique opportunities to marginalised youth in the US. Other ongoing projects have a focus on education, the environment and other elements that compliment what Erskine is all about.
A major project for this year is the Regeneration X portal, a site to enable discussion, analysis and criticism on the subject of masterplanning and regeneration, combining user-submitted views with those of established columnists and industry voices.
At Erskine Design, we understand the role responsible web design can play in bringing organisations into focus, and we are passionate about providing our service from an ethical standpoint. This starts in the office, runs right through our processes, and even influences our decisions when it comes to web hosting provision.
Take New Consumer as an example. Part of our role was to analyze the resources required to keep the site running and feed this back to the NC team. This has allowed them to make an informed decision about how many trees they will plant to offset the site’s energy use. Good for them, good for the environment… and great for squirrels.
