A packed hall at Choppington Social Welfare Centre, listened to the movers and shakers of the North East set out the BLOOM programme and why it is needed in South East Northumberland.

Speakers included (from left to right)

Erskine organised the event following the marketing and brand development exercise for the project. See the BLOOM website and the case study for further details.

It is hard to underestimate the value of coherent communication in the development of a regeneration project to secure long-term buy in from current or existing funding partners, the community and businesses. But so many public agencies don’t see the value. It is seen as a fancy add on.

So many say that the real work is done behind the scenes by policy wonks and civil servants. And yes, this is important, but all this will come to nought if it isn’t properly communicated to the right people, at the right time, in the right way.

That’s why it was a pleasure working with Groundwork (and partners) on the strategic positioning, branding and communication of BLOOM, formerly the South East Northumberland Forest Park (we changed the name sharpish!!!).

They had enough vision to see that investing upfront gave the project a better chance of success and to get such esteemed speakers and 80 key people at the launch of a ‘green infrastructure’ project, is testament to a job well done. It’s now up to BLOOM to make it erm… Bloom
