Erskine was asked by Yorkshire. Forward, the regional development agency, to ‘carry out an assessment of the business needs of Settle and the potential for a business centre to support businesses in Settle and its hinterland’.
Settle is an attractive but economically struggling market town on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. Erskine used its extensive local knowledge combined with desk research, formal quantitative surveys, qualitative investigation with local businesses and business planning techniques to outline the services needed to support the local business economy and to establish the nature and location of any business accommodation required.
We worked with our partners, Bauman Lyons Architects, to undertake a site appraisal, looking at a variety of options from a new build flagship building to modest refurbishment of ‘over the shop’ premises.
The study concluded with production of an outline business plan for the Service, based on provision of a suite of managed office spaces and property brokering services, together with an evaluation of the fundraising prospects for the project..
‘I would like to thank Erskine for the enthusiastic approach to this piece of work and the contribution it has made to the Renaissance Market Towns (RMT) programme in Settle.’
‘On behalf of the StART member’s thank you for your excellent study and final report...’
