Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council: Play Strategy
In 2006, Erskine were asked to undertake the development of the Oldham Play Strategy. This included a large scale stakeholder consultation event, guidance on the play audit and GIS mapping of play provision/space/schemes in Oldham.
Erskine delivered a highly successful consultation event. The day included presentations from the Executive Director, Services for Children, Young People and Families and Erskine. Creative sessions were undertaken, including ‘play’ charades, ‘MagNotes’, mapping of play areas (‘Flag it up’) in the borough and general discussions on play needs in Oldham.
An in-depth, jargon free report has been drawn up by Erskine, highlighting the main points of the day and action to undertake to develop a cohesive and informed play strategy, thus increasing the play opportunities for children and young people in Oldham.
Erskine collated work undertaken on the play audit, identified the gaps and suggested further work needed to ensure the play audit is accurate and up-to-date.
Oldham also commissioned Erskine to complete all the remaining stages up to submitting the play strategy and the bid. We are proud of this because it reflects the quality of the work we did and is an opportunity to work with a range of ethnic and faith communities to create real community cohesion around play.
The play strategy was adopted by the council and the bid for £648,910 was successful…
