East Lindsey District Council: Play Strategy
In 2006 East Lindsey District Council and its partners wanted to create a strategy to improve the play opportunities available to its children, young people and parents.
Over six months Erskine supported East Lindsey to go from a handful of positive but ad-hoc play initiatives to a fully costed play strategy and action plan. To do this we…
- Developed a ‘play partnership’ to steer the strategy development
- Audited all play provision in the district and mapped this so that gaps could be easily identified
- Consulted 300 children, young people and parents, parish councils, disability groups and public agencies about what the priorities were for play investment
- Developed costed project and policy solutions for the districts’ play needs
- Drafted a five year strategy ready for the play partnership to deliver
- Undertook funding research for projects to identify match funding
- Supported an application to the ‘Big’ Lottery.
Following the submission to the ‘Big’ Lottery, the Council were awarded £260,000 to improve play and free-time activities for the children and young people of East Lindsey.
Over the next five years the strategy will deliver a flagship play vehicle that will travel this highly rural area providing quality play and freetime opportunities. Other projects in the strategy include a dedicated play development officer and an interactive website to improve the availability of information about play facilities.
