Children’s Society: Little London Children’s centre
Opened in summer 2006 Erskine undertook the initial feasibility study, fund-raised and project managed the construction of this flagship Children’s Centre.
We were asked by the Children’s Society, to undertake an initial feasibility study looking at options for the delivery of up to four Sure Start capital projects.
Erskine has subsequently helped with fundraising, successfully securing over two million from the Single Regeneration Budget, Objective 2 (ERDF), Children’s Centre Fund and Leeds City Council. This has enabled the delivery of two new build Children’s Centres as well as the refurbishment of two existing buildings which form smaller ‘hubs’ for delivery of Sure Start family support services.
Erskine’s Yvonne Deane also managed the project management of the fabulous flagship building, designed by the award winning architects, Bauman Lyons Architects. The project costs were within budget and the building opened in Spring 2006.
Following the official opening in December 2006 the building was shortlisted for the 2006 RIBA Yorkshire White Rose Awards for Architecture and went on to win both the New Building Award and the People’s Award at the Leeds Architecture Awards ceremony run by Leeds City Council.
