Angela is a founder partner of Erskine and is responsible for play, children & young people and funding.

She has developed a deep expertise in the area of children and young people’s play, with specific attention to the very disadvantaged and disenfranchised. She is great with young people and when she has time, loves to work on the front line of our youth consultation projects. An excellent communicator, she is an expert in running formal and informal sessions to find out what young people really think.

In addition to play she has also been instrumental in writing multi-million pound winning bids to the Big Lottery by integrating the bids into play strategies developed by Erskine and client teams.

With a focus on developing programmes and strategies to educate and inform communities about regeneration projects and issues that affect them, Angela has a broad range of regeneration interests - she has a passion for niche local food and its impact upon the young. She is an amazing ideas person and regularly come up with the ‘BIG’ idea.

In her ‘spare time’ Angela is a voluntary business mentor for the Princes Trust and a Young Enterprise advisor.

Katie joined Erskine in March 2007 to work with Angela Campbell on research and consultation with children and young people, and with Simon Campbell on regeneration and consultation for the built environment.

Katie is working with us alongside studying for her PhD on design and social participation, specifically looking at the emerging role of design and designers in participatory community projects and urban design. She is an expert on the role of design in regeneration and community development, and in using creative practices such as art, design and drama as a means of consulting with and building capacity within communities.

Having trained as a user centred industrial designer, and then worked as a researcher, she has developed excellent creative research skills. As an academic at Leeds Metropolitan University, she has played a key role in the creation of a new research centre, DesignLeeds, and is developing strategic links between the university, policy organisations, and private companies.

Having grown up in rural Lincolnshire with close family ties to farming, and having lived all her adult life in the heart of the city of Leeds, she has a strong connection to, and understanding of both rural and urban communities. She’s definitely a city girl now, but her roots in the country are strong, and she enjoys crossing the borders between the two, both professionally and personally.

Aside from working on anything with a social conscience, the more self-indulgent side of Katie sees her showing off with her swing band at local festivals, and making stuff. She can fix or make just about anything, so she’s handy to have around.
